Built into the front of the lens cap is a Skid Pad. Short of giving it a hefty whack on a solid object, the cap isn’t going to come off unless you want it to. The spring wire in the pinch-style release mechanism creates a lot of force, securely fastening the cap in front of the lens element.
It feels solid and durable, yet not too heavy. Out of the box, my first impression of the lens cap was positive. The lens cap is seen here with one of Zemlin Photo’s replacement lens hoods. Why should it take me one second to take the lens cap off my 24-70mm lens but thirty seconds to take it off or install it on my 800mm lens? Even the newer Canon and Sony lens caps, though faster to remove, still fall short because you can’t use them with the lens hood installed in the shooting position. For years I have wondered how lens manufacturers can get the optics of their super telephoto lenses so right but miss the mark with simple things like the usability of the lens’ essential accessories.
